I've gone through several pairs of (relatively) high-end headphones and can definitely notice a bad pair of headphones. My problem is now that I'm in college, I can't afford spending a single penny past $50, but I desperately need some IEM's.

Tell me what to do.

Audio Technica A700's, Ultrasone HFI-700's, Porta-Pros, UE SF5 Pros

I listen to almost every type of music, but I specifically prefer a decent lower end but don't neccesarily require it.

I don't like Etymotics.

$50? how about the Altec Lansing rebranded UE Super.Fi 3? something like $35USD shipped. The Apple new-ish IEMs too, if you look at the other thread for the reputable seller(s) on ebay. They should be the "sterile"-r type of sound though. At the other end of the spectrum for earphones that hype it up more, I have no idea :0 (edit: oh wait, maybe the Klipsh S4?)

Nuforce ne-6m/7m are the two of the usual budget recommended IEMs for <$50. They have bass-focused sound and have gotten many good reviews here. Another option you might want to look at are the MEElectronics AI-m9 (overstock.com for $20 shipped). They have a slightly larger soundstage than the nuforce but still have strong bass.

Can't go wrong with either for the price.

i'd go with the ADDIEMs. (apple in-ear with mic). BEST bang for the buck, Not to mention they're super cheap for what they are.

Prices have dropped severely on ebay... the average price for a used is $32, and refurbished (sellers sometimes say "new", but if they don't have meshcaps you can assume their used. meshcaps are really useful too.)

you can find a good, new one on ebay for $40, and i'm sure you'll be happy. I have and like UE super.fi 5 pros, coming from them, the ADDIEMs are different, but oh so enjoyable.
