My frined would like to buy a nice haedphone for classical music for under £100.
He especial loves Symphony and Concerto.

Source: Laptop or PCDP, using phoneout only so not interested in hard to drive haedphone.

Any suggestions guys?

Well, they sound very, very sweet for £56...
Maybe you can try to find the K701 for £100 or more. The K701's Sound even better...

You need to check and compare prices... Required some home work.

that will go over the budget i think and it requires a good amp to sound good

Look for a used AKG K-501. You should be able to find one within that budget. It's one of my favorites for classical, along with the Beyerdynamic DT48 and Sennheiser HD-600.

ATH-AD700 or AD900. No amp is necessary.
He probably would have some money left for source upgrade. I recommend Echo Indigo DJ. EDIT: Echo is beyond the budget but it is worthy.

The HD555 is good for classical music, I'm using it right now. 50ohms resistance, no amp needed. It has a special surround reflector that makes the sound better.

Audio Technica ATH-AD500s or AD700s.

K501, Alessandro MS1 and AD700. No amp needed for MS1 and AD700. I listen mostly to classical music and have and like all three phones.

thanks for the help guys, my friend wants the headphone to be comfy and he wants clarity sound so probably would go for the ATHs or AKGs as he listen to no Pop and Rock.

Any close back suggestions as he want sound isoluation as well, thanks a lot.

x4 on the AD700 if you can stretch your budget. Since you don't need an amp, you don't need to pay more for you phones to sound good.

Edit: if your friend wants isolation, he might want to consider iems such as the Ety er6i if he doesn't mind sticking things in his ears. If he wants closed headphones, I've seen Sony VR6/VR7506 and AT M50s being recommended though i have no real experience with these. So I dunno how well they isolate or whether they will be suited to your friend.
