I am looking at these prices for recordable DVD-Rs on the web and they seem to be MUCH cheaper than the local stores. My only problem is that they are "no name" and I've never really trusted my electronics to companies id never even heard of (ive usually bought verbatim or memorex). I think this is different and its not too much of a loss if a couple don't work.

here'e the link

any comments?

is it possible that the surface may scratch more easily because it is so cheap?

Stay away from brand names that don't specify an established manufacturing plant such as Taiyo Yuden or Mitsui Japan. I got some really cheap knockoff single layer DVD-R discs and the DVD-Videos that I compressed and burned on them skip like crazy even on my high end reference universal dvd player -- it never skips whatsoever on any discs except those cheap ones. Don't fall for the temptation of a super low price and pay a little bit more for Verbatim or go straight for Taiyo Yuden, Mitsui, etc. Cheap discs wind up lasting about 2 years before the data gets corrupted due to poor quality anyway and I've learned that the hard way.

Stay away from no-name media or you'll risk losing your data. However, it is entirely possible to find very good media like Taiyo Yuden at very good prices on the internet. Chain stores tend to charge way too much for these kinds of items and you can save a bundle by buying online, especially if you're willing to buy in small bulk quantities.

Ya i think ill get 100 Taiyo Yuden discs for around $30. Is there a major problem with burning above the speed shown on the discs? It says it's 4x but i have burned 16x, 48x, etc. at 52x. What will happen if i burn these 4x discs at a high speed?
