Hey guys .. im pretty much new here and I need to get some new headphones - 1 for home and 1 for portable use. I like to listen to rock (not hard) and some pop and I'l be using a laptop and an ipod respectively. After much reading from these forums, ive sorta narrowed it down to the Sennheiser HD202 or ATH M30 or Philps HP460 for home, and the ATH FC7 or for portable. Which dyu guys think is better for home use (and in the same price range), and are their any other good, cool looking closed headfones for on the go usage? Just to confirm the ATH FC7 is closed right .. cos the singaporean AT site says otherwise -

Thanks in advance!

The HD202's should not even be considered. Too muddy and bassy. I'm pretty sure I've read that the mids are a bit recessed on the M30, but other than that it's good. The HP460 is supposed to have a fun punchy bass, but I don't know any of it's other attributes - run a forum search! Also the FC7 is closed. Good luck!

The FC7 and HD202 are fairly equal in terms of portability, and neither have great sound quality. They're also both closed...so you're giving up the advantage of having an open headphone for home usage.

I would suggest you pool your money to get just one headphone for both home and portable - the AKG K81DJ should fulfill this task pretty well. It's also quite good looking.

If you don't need something closed for home usage (ie, you don't need to block out external noise at home), I would pick up a KSC-75 too...it's an excellent intro to what an open headphone can really do. Preferable to the HD202 or any cheap closed headphone, imho.

Yea iv read all the wonderful things about the KSC-75, but i need isolation at home as well, 'cause im a college student and dont wanna disturb others or be disturbed while doing my own thing. Thanks for the help so far.

The FC7 sounds better than the HD202 right?

AKG K81DJ. That thing rocks, and is really durable. It might even serve both purposes for you. Grab you one of those ASAP.

Fair enough. I'm also a college student, but I use open headphones in my dorm room...they don't disturb others through walls

. But I guess it would be an issue if you have roommates.
