can't get that stax setup? here's a few deals i've stumbled on:

koss ur29 -rebranded radio shack version. $9.50 clearance. same drivers as koss sb40-should sound great after a long burn in. mega bass, recessed highs, 100 ohms- not good for an ipod, needs a little amp.

jvc hag101. big lots- 9.99. large, comfy, ez to drive. ok bass and highs, though not sparkly highs. just the earpads are worth the 9.99

burned these in overnight once each. the koss ur29 has improved in mids- again will probably sound great with use like other koss of this type.
the jvc hag101 sounds like an harx700's little brother. less bass and highs, but similar otherwise. a small amp helps liven it up- think sennheiser 400 series, but smoother bass.
both of these make my ears hot after a while
