ive had this chase credit card for a while, about 5yrs, and recently, i closed the account due to bad customer service. ive almost never called them since a few days ago so ive never known how they were but man.. representatives over the phones are.. man.. i felt like they dont want to help or talk about anything. they just want to hang up asap. i never had anything like this before, with other financial institutes..

i thought i was the only one but about 2 of my friends had the same experience with chase.

anyone else? or its just me and my friends..

I have a Chase CC too and I do everything on line so I've never had a reason to call them. I have called other large banks and your experience mirrors mine. I think these call center folks have time limits and get bonuses based on the number of calls they take. For this reason, I do most of my banking via my credit union which still offers great customer service.

call centers rigidly structure the agents time - to the point of recording how long they take on bathroom breaks.

It is a special kind of hell, so I try and remember that they're paid far less than they need to be to give a damn about me. I try and make them laugh and remain polite and that helps.

One can argue they should care and put service back into customer service, but companies that pay their workers enough to keep the good ones can't compete with the ones that use the meatgrinder model of customer service callcenters.

I've had two Chase cards and they are by far the worst credit card issuer I've encounter. Had them before the bank that issued them were bought out by Chase. I had two Chase cards because at the time I had applied for them their APR was lower and the credit limit was higher than the card I currently have with my credit union. When Chase took over, the first three years they made no changes to my APR or membership agreement.

On the fourth year, the changes to my APR and agreement began and continued routinely every six months. My APR with Chase went from 14.99% to 27.99% within a two year period. This happened even with me paying above the the minimum monthly due and having no blemishes on my Chase card record. Frustrated with the continuous changes in my APR and card agreement terms, I called Chase for an explaination. They were of no help and the only explanation they gave me basically was that as long as my account with them is still active, I would agree to accept the changes.

Soon after that call I immediately canceled both of my Chase cards because their terms and my current APR with them at that time couldn't match the card issued by my credit union. The people at Chase are unsympathetic to your concerns and are only out to get as much money from you as possible. If you need customer service help from Chase, you'll be left ******* up the river without a paddle.

You're not the only one who has had bad experiences with Chase, google chase sucks and you'll come up with a long list of links with bad Chase credit card experience such as the following:

I'd just keep the account open, but cut up the card. Seems to be good for your credit rating :-)

All bank/CC-companies are like that these days. It seems that they don't like customers who actually pay their balances. They actually treat you worse. They much prefer you to keep a high, rolling balance, and just pay your minimum required payment each month.

I don't expect much from "customer service" (air-quotes intentional) departments anymore. Most are not even based in the US. Sad. So sad.

the bigger the place, the worse the customer service.

I dumped my Chase card years ago, shortly after I got it.

When they issued the card, someone transposed two letters in my last name. So I called and asked them to correct the mistake. They told me that if I wanted to change my name, they needed a court order showing that my name had changed. I explained that my name had not changed and that someone had just made a data entry error. But no, I had to have a court order showing a change in name.

It did not get heated, but I went in circles for 10 minutes over needing a court order to change something that had never changed.

Frustrated, I closed the account and I have no plans to do business with them again.

I had been through something just as weird with Qwest once. Trying to set up a phone line in Oregon, the agent was insistent that my line was in Eugene. I was in Salem. We went back and forth about where I actually was. I got treated like I was trying to pull something on them, though I am not sure what advantage there would be to having a Eugene number in Salem.

I strongly advice anyone with a Chase card to do everything in their power to get rid of it. I'm not exaggerating. Ditch it NOW!

They will screw you, and they will do it with a smile. It's sad too. My mortgage is with Chase and it's outstanding. Different companies though.

Chase CC company is as close to pure evil as a CC can be.

Hmm....I've never really had bad experience with them, although my roommate had trouble getting his credit limit extended (a consultant having trouble getting credit limit beyond meager $500 when amex gave him $5k...).

I've never had to deal with them unless I was paying big bucks through paypal and red flag went up. They would actually call me first and clear everything. Maybe I was just lucky?

I've never used Chase, but was considering switching to one of their rewards cards. Thanks for letting me know I shouldn't!

I've been using a Capital One CC for about 7 years now, and to be honest, my experience with their customer service hasn't been half bad. When I had a charge for a product that was never delivered, they patiently helped me do the charge-back which ultimately went through okay. And when I accidentally underpaid my bill by a dollar or something like that several years ago, they removed the finance charge when I asked them to do so. I don't know if my experiences have been flukes, but it's certainly not like what I'm reading about Chase.

wow, I seem to be in the minority here, but I've had only good experience with people I've called at chase. I forgot my password to check the online version of my account and the service person was very helpful in resetting it for me and walking me through the process. I respect the fact that his company tries to get him to go so fast, yet he was still able to clear up my issue. I know how hard it is for people to work in a place like that and maintain a good attitude.
