So I remember my parents telling me that they once listened to "hip" music....I denied their speech and refused to believe I'd ever be out of the "circle". I'm a bit older now (22 years old), and I've noticed a few things- 1. I have terrible spelling and sentence structure, and of course 2. I HAVE changed my music preference.

I grew up in the late 80's with def leppard, metallica, guns n' roses...etc, but then in the early 90's I did what every young rocker did- listened to the grunge scene with nirvana, pearl jam, alice in chains, stp...etc. I figured I'd jump on the next "upcoming" genre, which I guess would probably be the nu-metal scene, but I didn't....something crazy- REALLY crazy happened: I became a raver out of the blue. O_O. In this scene I of course saw some crazy stuff, did some crazy stuff (you know), and experienced some weird and funky music that I adored. The scene is now laying low...perhaps too low for a 5'11" adult, but it left me a bit empty...I loved the music, but no one to share it with anymore besides the angsty teens. So I started a "soul search" for my passion for sound, and on the way I discovered a lot of crazy sounds....the strings of alex shakar, the keys of mozart's soul, bach's crying bow...and then I went to more organic sounds such as Shpongle

. So here I am listening to Kilowatts, Caribou, Shpongle...etc. I also seem to be drawn towards acoustic stuff....I LOVE it.

I guess, is what I'm trying to say- What did you start off with...did anything unusual happen that made you change your style and listening habits...and of course... where do you think it's all headed!?

PS. I still listen to my oldie favs

I will always listen to the Beatles (my first love). In jr high I was pop, motown and folk. In hs I was into rock. In the Navy, I stayed into rock but expanded from mainstream into progressive, southern, euro, british, texas and californian rock and jazz(never liked disco). In the 30s I got started into the blues, bluegrass, old country and oldies (50s-60s) with some pop from the 80s. In my 40s I got into new age, easy listening, reggae, R&B (and my younger brother tried getting me into hip/rap/trance). I am now turning 51 and getting into world folk, newer progressive, older euro. rock, some metal and starting into classical.

Mostly though, I just use the random button and enjoy what about 40 years of collecting has brought me. A big smile now that I have quality hps

I started with classical and mainstreamish pop and rock, moved on to light metal (early Metallica and such), then proper metal (SLAYER, hehehe), then death metal, then black metal. Now I listen to just about every genre, though stoner rock/metal, psych, classical and jazz get the most listening time. I can name artists I like in any genre, pretty much.
