So I got a new set of Denon D1001's, and they sound fantastic. Only one problem I have right away, they hurt my ears after a while. Seems the pads just aren't thick enough for my ears. Are there any off the shelf pads that fit that are a little thicker? Or is this DIY territory?

This would be DIY territory.
The d1000 have a oval shaped cup that wouldn't fit other headphone pads.
I find the d1000/1 to be extremely comfortable for the first half hour or so, but it does start to get uncomfortable after extended use -
For me, this is mostly due to the fact the pads sit partially on top of your ear, instead of sitting around it. The pads themself are plenty thick and very soft.

It's not the pads that make it uncomfortable, it's the hard surface of the headphone sitting against my ear. Previous headphones I've had had a little scooped out part in the area where it puts pressure. Maybe I'll have to put them in the marketplace if I can't find a fix.
