Basically, for my dream amp, I am looking for the following:
Required
1. Headphone amp with good synergy and power to drive HD800 unmodded (important since this location is away from computer / No SonarWorks)
2. Remote control volume (due to location of setup)
3. At least two analog inputs, preferably at least one balance (one for a DAC, the other for a turntable)
4. At least one fixed level line analog outputs, balanced or unbalanced (to pass the turntable through to my other audio processor)
5. Under $2500 street, preferably under $1500 street. Balanced headphone output would be nice, but not a requirement.
6. Solid state (due to very young kids)
7. I only buy new. very lightly used demos, or manufacturer refurbished items due to bad experiences with used equipment.
So far I have found the following that fit the requirements:
1. Violectric V281 / V220 - #1 on my list, but big bucks
2. Phonitor X / 2 - Still pretty expensive and it seems people love the crossfeed and features but otherwise aren't the most thrilled with sound or build quality
3. Audio-gd Master 9 - seems good value but a bit concerned about fit and finish and difficulty of getting it serviced
Anything else out there that would work meet my requirements people know of? Should I just save up for the V281? HELP!
