I know that most 5.1 soundcards allow you to choose the crossover frequency so that frequencies above that get sent to the other channels while the frequencies below that get sent to the subwoofer output.

I doubt the 1212m has that feature.

Would an electronic crossover device for a car work for this? The amp is big enough that I could just bolt it to the side

An automotive active crossover should work. They usually have terrible phase shift problems, but for this application it won't matter much.

I hope that you get to hear a system with honest deep bass response some day. imho, deep bass should be heard more then felt.
