I'll preface this by saying I'm in my 5th hour of straight music listening on my Boston Acoustics BA4800 Speakers in 2 speaker mode as instructed by Mr. Radar in this article. I have yet to listen to these on some high quality cans
After setting it up, one thing I noticed that there was no "Hiss / Whine" that came from the speakers even when turned all the way up to max volume, which has been the case with all my soundcards for the past 4 years. I always attributed this to the speakers just being "low end, $200 comp speakers" but obviously that was not the case.
And now on to the music:
Genre: Psy Trance
Song: Astrix - Fourth revelation on Album "13 crystal skulls"
Impressions: Bass is noticably more punchy and realistic. Mids are extremely crisp and stright. Highs are "surreal" & mesmerizing.
Genre: Funk / Classic Rock
Song: Robert Randolph - I Need More Love
Impressions: Randolph on the steel guitar sounds like he is right in front of me plucking away at his table. Bass guitarist is to the left and drums are kicking. His singing is certainly convincing - I definitely need more love.
Genre: Jazz / Funk / Fusion
Song: Miles Davis - It's About That Time
Impressions: There really is no way to describe this. Professionals on their instruments. Perfect funk fusion. Sound representation is as if the band is in a small, smoke filled hall in the late 50s. Trumpet is as smooth as glass. Bass Guitar is singing. I could go on. Synergy at its best.
I have yet to find some music that can really put this card through its paces.
I'd have to say that this compares to my uncle's ~$1500 home JVC / Polk receiver setup. Pretty incredible.
Bottom line: Best $23 I've ever spent! If you don't have a sound card of this level or greater, BUY ONE NOW, you have no idea what you're missing!
