Suppose a singer releases the an album but with 2 CDs in different formats, mp3 and tta/flac. They don't sell both separately so I've both CDs.

Should I rip the CD with flac and convert to mp3 or just use the cd that came with mp3? Which option has better quality?

So, if I understand correctly, you have two versions of the same CD - one on lossless format (TTA / FLAC) and the other in MP3?

I guess it depends on what bit rate the MP3 files on the second CD are as to whether you feel it's worth the time to convert the FLAC files.  But personally I would always prefer to create my own MP3 files from a FLAC or some other lossless format version, plus I only use the MP3 files on portable players (iPod) or in the car where ultimate sound quality isn't as important to me.  For my main listening, I always play the FLAC / lossless files where possible.
