Hello

I'm new to this forum and cannot locate any previous posts on this subject. Hence:

Can anyone recommend a nice sounding personal CD player (walkman type) for using with my (soon to arrive) amp? I'm not really worried about price. But a nice feature would be a dedicated RCA phono 'audio out', so I wouldn't have to mess around with a mini-jack to phono plug.

Thanks.

You'd probably have more luck in the Portable Audio Section.

If portability isn't an issue, then you might want to look into the vintage Sony PCDPs (Portable CD Player). The older Sony PCDPs don't have anti-skip have usually have horrible battery life, but they do well as desk units. Check out Duncan's fabled PCDP review but don't forget the non-Sonys, such as the Denon DCP line (Denon DCP-150 is widely reputed to be the best PCDP ever, and has a pricetag to match...usually around $300) or the Optimus CD3400.

Some modern PCDPs are good, but the general consensus is that they can't top the old ones.

Also, I haven't heard of any PCDPs having stereo/phono jacks, but only minijacks for line-outs. If you want the regular stereo-out, you'll have to stick to home CDPs.

Thanks for gettin back. Didn't notice the portable section. I'll re-post it there.

Not surprised to hear that older portable is better. A friend of mine has a (non-headphone) system with all the components from the 1940's: Western Electric tube amps, 1940's pre-amp, Altec speakers with RCA drivers. Things were built differently in the past- not to a price point so much.

not sure if I've got enough time to look for older portables as I'm going to need a player within about 3 weeks.

Regarding Denon, have checked their webpage but cannot see any portables listed there.
