cd-rom drive "external exclosure" question...

Hey guys! I was thinking, instead of buying a Multispin, couldn't I just use one of those external "shells" that you can put a cd-rom drive into to transport it around? It would have an optical out, so I'd guess I could do it...

yes you could, but just being in an external case is not the reason the nec multispin works so well as a transport. read this article: http://positive-feedback.com/Issue3/cdrom.htm

I suspect that there may be a lot of interunit variability here. The analog out on mine is surprisingly good, but has a lot of noise at very loud levels. I stick with digital out.
