Well before I plunk down some benjamins for a mid-fi DAC under $800 range and also a CDP under $1000 I was reading about Cd players with digital inputs. I could use the Dac from the CDp to use with the SB3 and still use the unit for Cd playing.
What are the available Cd players that have a quality DAC and digital inputs...I think Cary303/200 and accuphase Cdp's. any others in the under $2000 range?
thanks

Not sure about the prices of these but I have also been looking at CDPs with digital inputs to serve a dual function. Ones I have come across so far include Accuphase Dp500, DP78, Wadia 581i, Linderman 820 / 820S, Meridian 808i, Chord Red Standard CDP. Chord Red Reference CDP, Burmester 061/001, DCS P8i.

Ones I wish had digital inputs: Metronome Technologie CD3,4,5, MBL 1531, T+A D10, Goldmund Eidos 18, Nagra CDC, Audio Research Ref Cd7, Esoteric X-01.

Adding to the comprehensive list already listed, you could include the Quad CD99.
A point to consider is that the stock SB3 is not the worlds best digital transport, so whilst you might add an ace DAC, it'll be limited by the SB3.

Of course another option would be to replace the SB3 with a really good version, meaning that you can the functionality of the SB3 and the sound from a high end source. Checkout the following:
