Having a CD3400 CD on loan, I can assure you it is NOT a TOSLINK cable (optical) but as to what it really is ~ i'm not too sure... i've yet to see a jack plug to phono plug digital cable?!

It is a regular good old fashioned coax digital output. You can use any digital cable. Radio Shack sells a mono 1/8 inch phono to RCA adapter that is all that you need.
