Hi, now I have money to spend for new headphone, my current setup:
Cd player: Rotel RCD-02
Amps: Gilmore v2 and Perreaux
Headphones: HD-600 , MS-1, AKG 501

Right now I really enjoy MS-1 bacuse I like the music forward, I listen to many music, mostly pop and jazz (acoustic).

What do you think? should I "upgradoing" to MS-2 (with Gilmore v2) or try new sound with CD3000, I giving up focus on HD-600 because I think it's not what i really want (i bought perreaux to give HD-600 a try, still not happy with the sound)

Please help...

Cheers

Never heard the MS2, but own or owned the other phones you've mentioned (plus a couple other Grados and the K501s just came yesterday). Although I returned my CD3Ks because I probably like my sounds a bit in the other direction (more Senn/Ety-like - less bright/forward), from your description I'd go that route. If the high end doesn't bother you, they have excellent detail, soundstage, comfort, etc. Seems to be more a different/larger jump, than the MS2 (if anything like the SR225/SR325).

it seems cd3000 is the way....but does it have any problem with my current amps? especially gilmore v2? and is that MS-2 "just a slight improvement" from MS-1?

oh, and I also have V6...and like it too....

I like akg 501 and MS-1, and not hd-600....so in compare to those two cans that i like, cd-3000 still consider the way?

I believe so. The K501s highs are the smoothest I've yet heard, but the general forwardness is similar to the Sonys I think. Certainly far closer than the HD600. Again, the AKGs and Alessandros highs don't bother me, and the CD3Ks do, so you decide what that is worth. Many find them bright. Many don't. But triangulating off your preferences, I'd choose the Sonys. I really think even if the MS2s are more than a small upgrade, they're not going to be as dramatic addition to your collection as the Sonys.

Not sure about the Gilmore pairing, but I did try the CD3Ks with a Gilmore Lite for about 15 minutes (SJ meet) and wasn't impressed by the pairing. Seemed thin. Short audition though.

Just beware, the Sony CD3k has a very special soundstage. It may bother you, but you may like it. The word that came up when I listened to them was "bloated" ...
It may be bright and forward, but it's definitely not a grado presentation. You should know what you're after

since you already enjoy the grado/alessandro house sound, it would certainly be the safest option to go the ms-2 route.

perhaps something you could do is tell us what you dont like about the ms-1s and see whether the cd3000 can address them?

fwiw though, i love my ms-2s.
