N7 Bluetooth is designed to work in half duplex mode, meaning N7 can transmit or receive audio signals via Bluetooth, but not simultaneously. Therefore you should be able to use your Apple TV as the source and set N7 as the wireless DAC to your Apple TV. I have checked the specification of Apple TV, it is VT v5.0 based, but I can't find the codec list supported by the Apple TV, I assume you can connect them in AAC or SBC, lossy up to 48kHz in both cases.

I assume you have reached this Bluetooth setup page. If you want to set N7 as a wireless DAC, you should select "Bluetooth Audio Input" in N7 (the command above + Pair New Device).

When you select Bluetooth Audio Input, N7 will enter the Bluetooth DAC interface like below. You can search and select N7 from your source Bluetooth device (Apple TV in your case) and complete your connection.

In case you still can't get the N7 to playback your Apple TV content, you can remove the previous connection and start from scratch again:

  1. Forget the pairing of N7 in the "Paired devices" section of the mobile phone or device's Bluetooth settings (if the device/phone was previously paired with N7 via Bluetooth);
  2. Forget the pairing of the corresponding device/phone in the "Paired devices" section of N7's Bluetooth settings (if the device/phone was previously paired with N7 via Bluetooth);
  3. Tap on "Bluetooth audio input" in N7's Bluetooth settings;
  4. Search for N7 in the device/phone's Bluetooth settings and pair and connect to it;
  5. Once connected successfully, you can use N7 as the Bluetooth DAC for the device/phone.
Thank you for the reply. I still cant connect to the Apple TV. Either it’s saying out of reach or I get the message that the connection code is wrong or missing. I get the same message with my Shanling H7 and it will fail to connect too. I asked the Shanling support and they are aware of the issue but were unable to find a solution yet.

I tried to connect to my iPhone and the Xiaomi 11 pro. I get a connection to my IPhone but not the Xiaomi..

The Bluetooth oft the Apple TV is not broken (I can connect several wireless headphones and my BTR5/7 without any issue).

I still can't connect too, with my Samsung TV. It's the same problem how the DAP from hiby. It's not possible to receive the sound from this device.

My N7 arrived just recently. Has been enjoying it so far.
Perform better in mid section and technical performance compared to WM1AM2 which I still keep for its battery life.
Plan to get soundtiger sinfonia for more amping power.

Wrong connection code? I assume you are referring to the Bluetooth pairing code like this:

1701852196166.jpeg

I have consulted our Engineer and found out that this code is for Bluetooth pairing. The Bluetooth protocols of the two devices negotiate and agree upon a common 6-digit password. If there is an error prompt, it usually means that the pairing codes generated on the two devices that need to be paired are different. In that case, it is likely an issue of compatibility.

Theoretically, if you can connect your iPhone to N7 and use it as a wireless DAC, that establishes the baseline for compatibility with iOS devices. We have tested a lot of consumer electronic products to ensure our DAP is compatible with commonly used stereo audio appliances, but our focus was on audio-only applications. We didn't test the compatibility with audio-visual or multi-channel audio devices such as Set-top boxes or Television. We don't have any plan to expand N7 into these categories, so I can't promise a firmware upgrade to solve this problem down the road.

We'll be looking into the Xiaomi 11 pro case. What Android OS were used in your Xiaomi? We'll try to find a sample to test its bluetooth connectivity.

For those who plan to use a Set Top Box or television with N7 as your outboard DAC, you can consider a wired connection. Adding an SPDIF Optical to USB Adapter (or DDC) and connect to N7 as your USB DAC. For device that doesn't come with SPDIF output, you'll need to look for HDMI splitter with USB Audio extraction, similar device with an SPDIF Audio extraction and SPDIF to USB adapter back to back.

Hi all,

Been using the Cayin N7 for close to four months now, mainly streaming from YouTube Music and Apple Music (sometimes Hi-Res Lossless) to 64 Audio Tia Fourte and Sennheiser IE900. I still cannot differentiate between DSD64/128/256/512. Am I using this device correctly? Or am I better off streaming from Tidal or Qobuz? Or perhaps buy/download hi-res files to MicroSD, then play it on the Hiby/Cayin music player? I am trying to make use of the full capacity of the DAP.

Also, do I have much to gain if connecting the Cayin N7 to Cayin C9 for listening to IEMs? Or am I better off using Mass Kobo or Brise Tsu? Thanks.

Hello everybody
I stop my audio Quest for about 3 years.
Recently I have the time to restart my journey to audio heaven.
I just bought a N7
I would like to know which are the best IEM to pair with this one.
What IEM are you using with this DAP?

Well, you've just realized what's the most important to sound in music: a proper recording/mix/mastering. All the fancy HD stuff just adds CPU processing, memory usgae and battery drain. Well, unless you're one of the rare breed that have both the golden ears and the golden gears.

Got it. I’d like to think that most modern music is recorded to the same specs anyway? 44.1/96 or hi-res etc?

I could be wrong but I’d like to think that buying music from qobuz is just as good as streaming from qobuz / tidal / apple music?

Well, music is supposed to be recorded using high res PCM wat above 96kHz sampling. We're just getting something smaller (and more practical in my opinion), unless you go for studio files.
As for streaming, I really don't use this, but based on the fact we're transmitting bits, if your blue tooth connection is stable and with a sufficient bandwidth, that should be equivalent.

I have most enjoyed it with the Sennheiser IE900 with copper/silver cables, suitable for most genres.

Basically, all IEMs should be able to work great with the N7, my IEM collection is very IMR-heavy, last week the Penon 10 Anniversary was added to my collection and it also sounds fantastic straight out of the box.

Out of all I tried, these have the best synergy with my N7: Softears Twilight, Custom Art FIBAE 5, UM Mest Indigo/MKIII, Empire Ears Odin and FiR Audio RN6.

Thanks for sharing.
I got the Mest Mkll. I will receive next week
How different are the Indigo and the Odin?
I’m planing to get the Odin soon.

Not all 100-watt amplifiers are equal.
Likewise, not all 16-bit, 44.1kHz soundtracks are of the same quality.

DXD format is probably the most popular audio format during the mastering process. This format is essentially PCM in 24Bit/352.8 kHz, it was originally developed to handle DSD/SACD mastering, but it become very popular among studios and record labels, especially when they need to support multiple release format (16 Bit /44.1kHz for CD and streaming, 1 Bit/2.822MHz for DSD, 24Bit/176.4kHz for Hi-Res streaming, ....).
