I would appreciate it if some one tell me how to set up N3 to play music continuously from one "Album" to next Album without stopping.

Apologize for N3 doesn't have this function now.But I will record it and give your kind feedback to our senior engineers. Thank you!

How do I control the gain when in usb-dac mode ? I want to use high gain while using the N3 as usb-dac. What am I doing wrong ? I'm using latest firmware.

Thanks!

Edit : Fixed! Thanks

If you want to know about reception range, my experience is that using this Bluetooth transmitter [ https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4W40VC/ ] connected to my TV, I've listened ~30-ft away (no intervening walls), and ~15-ft away (with one or two intervening walls), to audio being played through my N3. At these distances, if my body is between the transmitter and the N3, there begins to be some signal interference.
I've now purchased a much more powerful Bluetooth transmitter [ https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7U2G17/ ], but haven't hooked it up yet.

I haven't done any research on the transmission range of the the N3.

The disappointing thing, is that all of my budget DAPs with Bluetooth & aptX (Cayin N3, Shanling M2s, Shanling M1), only support aptX in their transmission mode, not in their reception mode (which is SBC only).

With any luck this can be added in one of the next firmware updates as I doubt it's a hardware limitation. Also, do you know of any DAPs that do receive aptX BT?

And I have promised to check the feasibility on apt-X in reception mode. Turn out we cannot implement this in N3 because that's the limitation of Ingenic X1000 processor. We are looking at other possibilities to strength the BT reception feature, such as implementing the AAC profile for BT reception.

Hi Andy - thanks for the feedback. at least now we know. AAC would be fantastic if you can do that. Cheers.

So far the N3 ticks many of my 'perfect DAP' checkboxes (regardless of budget):

> top-shelf DAC
> powerful, clean amp
> attractive industrial design
> current USB-C interface
> dedicated music UI
> BT send/receive (not perfect, but...)
> native DSD
> great build quality
> small and highly portable
> 256GB support
> OTG storage support
> USB DAC
> Digital line out

What could be better:

> many instances of poor English spellcheck and grammar (hope this is fixed in firmware)
> inconsistent/pointless startup animations (hope this is fixed/disabled in firmware)
> inconsistent music menu style (yep, firmware...)
> optional time/date display (on UI and lock screen) (can this be added in firmware?)

What I'd upgrade for: (wishlist)

> dedicated music touchscreen UI (not Android)
> retina screen (gorilla glass or similar)
> wi-fi (for lossless streaming over a network, not for apps)
> aptX HD (send/receive)
> user configurable backgrounds/themes
> user configurable metadata display
> dual TF slots (not a must with OTG)
> simplified input buttons (due to touchscreen)

The startup animation is a "backward" design, and the sequenced goes like this:
  1. Develop v0.9beta firmware without start up animation.
  2. Measure the time required to start-up the DAP
  3. Create a clip that match the recorded start-up time
  4. Include the clip into the v1.0 firmware.

In other word, if we remove the animation clip, the DAP will display a blank black screen for exactly the same period of time, and I am sure a lot of users will lost their patient and begin to "rescue" their "un-responded" DAP :deadhorse:

optional time/date display? I believe this is unlikely because N3 cannot connect to the atomic clock for reference date/time, and the only "clock" we have inside the DAP are two crystal oscillators, they are good for their designated purpose (digital audio synchronization) but not time keeping.

Your upgrade requirements, if all fulfilled, will definitely be a seriously upgrade from N3. Non-Android touchscreen is a big challenge, not technically impossible, but we have seen bad implementation that caused serious user dissatisfaction, so we are reluctant to include that in our roadmap.

Wi-fi would have been great to be able to listen to internet radio for example while connected to a mobile hot spot

...if you would like the battery life to completely disappear!

Battery will certainly be affected, but that's not our main concern when we add WiFi to a DAP. The biggest issues are noise and interference incurred from the WiFi components. We need a bigger "reason" and competitive edge if we were to go for that, and the cost implication will be significantly more then just adding the WiFi components to the Bill of Material. In fact, the worldwide WiFi certification process might even cost more then the total components costs.

Just a quick check in regards to whether the N3 are able to show just song title naming only as per metadata? After going through the Artist, then Album, then Song directory.
Cause I'm just really puzzled why they are showing my full physical file name, rather than the song title only in that directory, when:
  1. I have properly tag all my songs' metadata
  2. N3 can just show just Artist and Album as per metadata, but Song will show my physical file name
Reason is, my physical file name of each song is very long, thus very hard to see which song (title) it is, until N3 starts scrolling.
Just got the N3, everything seems fine and good value, just that the Song naming part is very frustrating.

Thanks!

According to our UI display design, the N3 will display Artist, Album, Track Title, Music format and sampling frequency on the main playback screen. Only when the player failed to retrieve the Track Title information from the metadata, then N3 will display Filename as a replacement of Title information.

If you have tag your music file correctly, the player should not display the filename. We need to investigate the reason behind this, any chance you can post a screen capture on the metadata of your music file? The following is an example of metadata listing from Foobar2000, information like this will help us to debug your problem.

Startup logo consist of
1) u-boot logo (static) and kernel logo (static)
2) hiby music animation logo (can be looped to one frame).
So what a black screen you talked about?
M2s uses one frame logo for example.

The main point is if we were to remove the animation, the start up time will not be shorten, and the DAP will not be able to response to any user action during the start up time. We need to include something that is "moving" to suggest that the DAP is working right now and keep the user in "waiting" mode while N3 is performing its initialization process.

Whether the N3 is in a black screen or displaying a static logo, the problem remains.

Here is the English string resources from Cayin N3 fw v1.2
You can edit it in notepad for example, spellcheck and re-upload.
english.zip

Here is the resource folder (themes, fonts, strings, coords etc): link
To pack everything back is a more difficult task, but I can do this too...
I think it's enough to give the corrected files to Cayin, so that they are sent them to the Hiby and they builded the firmware.

Thank you for your kind intention in helping Cayin to improve our firmware. :beerchug:

On the other hand, I would like to remind all customers that changing the firmware content will violate the warranty of your N3, Cayin and our dealers reserve the right to not providing any warranty service until the N3 has retro-installed a firmware issued by Cayin. The firmware files are available at our website, so I assume everyone can re-install the firmware if they run into any problem afterward.

We have started the N3 tour not too long ago, and two reviewers has contributed to the N3 community by offering the following Youtube reviews:

Salute to @Hawaiibadboy and @ngoshawk for their prompt N3 review. Lets hope more user reviews will be rolling in as the tour continued. :beerchug:
