Cayin iDAC-6 - Review tour (USA only for now), impressions, discussion
Jul 10, 2016 at 5:03 AM Post #92 of 286
Checking in here, been using the idac6 for a few days. I never turned it off and just checking to make sure the chassis should be hot but still touchable.

The iha6 is also waiting to be tested but with my MHDT dac so I keep the vary to 1 piece when hearing it. I will try the combo as well of course.

I need some help, I cannot load the drivers for the iDAC-6, I have tried on both my Win 7 and Win 10 computers and followed the recommendations from page 1 on this thread, but still nothing. Under devices on my computer it shows the Cayin but it reads "drivers unavailable". Does that mean my dac is missing the drivers or that I'm just doing something wrong.

Driver signature enforcement issue?

Aside from the sound, which I like so far, one thing that annoys me with with the iDAC-6 is that with a USB input, the DAC seems to have a relay(?) or something inside of it that activates and makes an initial clicking sound whenever it receives a signal (with the display updating the sampling rate accordingly). When it's not receiving a signal, the display indicates that it's not receiving a signal and the DAC makes another clicking sound.

Because of this, it takes the DAC about half a second to actually play sounds through the headphones...which is quite cumbersome to deal with when editing videos/audio or streaming videos/audio since you have to rewind a second or two. Even if you're playing music in a media player, you might miss the first parts of a track from this.

I tried the recommendations that you posted on page 1 and the ones iboHD800 posted and neither one worked. I did notice my computer recognizes the dac but it reads "driver is unavailable".

I contacted Jeff from AudioNation (where I bought the iDAC and iHA) and he put me in contact with John from Cayin. John sent me the link to the drivers and I have them up and running now.

Interesting, I believe they are the same USB utility driver file as included in the thumb drive of your iDAC-6 package, we just keep it in different server to improve the download efficient.

Anyway I am glad that you can get the iDAC-6 connected to your computer, looking forwards to your sharing when you get to explore the combo happily there after. :D

Can someone post a rear picture of their iDac-6/iha-6? Some people have been saying it's not identical to the ones posted on Cayin's website. Specifically, that it's missing the voltage switch.

I believe that there no longer is a switch. I bought my stack in person from them do I know I have the real thing. I can take a pic if you'd still like.
