Cayin C9: Dual Nutube, Fully Balanced Class A/AB Portable HeadAmp

Very happy with the C9 driving the Diana MRs, full-bodied, weighty sound. Even better since I bought the vegan bass ported pads for my MRs. I had considered selling the C9 and buying a much more expensive, dedicated desktop amp (as I don't need portability) but I am very pleased with this setup at the moment and so have put that idea on the backburner for the foreseeable.

My C9 failed, very nasty clicking in one channel and then it wouldn't even turn on. I returned it to the supplier, it was only a couple of months old. They are returning it to China and say it will take a least a month before I'll see it again.

I found the support group in China very responsive and good to work with. They answered emails and keep me updated on status of repair when my Cayin N6mk2 had to go back -and it wasn’t even on warranty. It’s sad and hard to have to wait that long, though. 😞

I have a C9 connected to a Hugo 2, it is in pre-amp mode and connected by the included 3.5mm cable. Is there any sonic advantage of buying a 4.4mm RCA adaptor, and using a 4.4mm cable instead?
You can't adapt single-ended connections (RCA, 3.5mm/6.5mm) to balanced unfortunately, without a transformer or phase splitter (circuit), as you'd be shorting the circuits of the C9 and it might break.

Way more expensive, but the ENLEUM HPA-23RM(H) is SE only, so works well with the Hugo 2.

Yes there is. Use the RCA over 3.5mm jack will also improve the stack sonically. I used to go H2 RCAs to 3.5mm. But then I added a PW Audio Hugo 2 4.4mm Bal Adapter. It took it up another level.

Ordered C9 from Ali Cayin store during the sale of 11.11, almost 1/2 price with Ali coupon.
The price might be as low in a few days in next wave of sale for BF.

Was looking into EA4 and C9ii, but the price difference is huge. so went for C9.
With the launch of the C9ii I’m hoping that the price of the C9 will reduce. It sounds like you got a good deal on yours. I was very impressed with the C9 when I tried it at Canjam.

Except it doesn't have a DAC?
Correct, it is pure amplification, but far better SQ than the amplification section of most DAPs. I find it especially impressive (if your HP or IEMs are up to the task) in terms of stage/imaging.
