Hi all dont know if this is the right sub group to post.... i have a 6 month old Trends pa10 preamp. It has a single tube for input stage and is SS for output stage. i have noticed lately that the pot is noisy when volumn is turned up and down; not noisy when volumn is set. This is a relatively new amp and i am wondering if i should be concerned. Is this a sign that the pot is going bad? or just needs cleaning or a sign the the tube is acting up and may need replaceing of the bias reset? i dont have another tube to tried at present

thanks for your responses in advance. i am concerned about sending it back for repaires it is a chinese amp bought from audio magnus and is a discontinued product

I have this problem with the pot on my Logitech active speakers. It may be caused by corrosion in the pot's internal contacts. Working it, turning it from min to max and back several times usually removes the corrosion and the pot works fine for several months.

If it doesn't fix the problem then the pot may need replacing or something else is happening with the circuit.

It happens to pots if they are older, they get a little scratchy if the contacts are worn or corroded. I have a guitar amp and a Crybaby wah-pedal that both have pot problems. The amp jumps in volume a bit and the wah scratches at a specific spot.

If your volume control looks similar to this, it can be cleaned with a VERY small amount of contact cleaner.(Spray where the arrow is pointed) Turn the control back and forth vigorously after spraying. Repeat if necessary. Sealed pots can not be cleaned easily.
