I'm looking for a full-sized set of cans that can be driven with a Cowon D2, straight out of the headphone jack. I promised myself I wouldn't buy an external amp until the end of the school year, which God seems to be teasing me with by throwing in several snow days.

However, I'd like something besides my E4c's. I use them for when I need to block out sound, but I'm looking for something I won't have to worry about a getting a good seal with. Something that, when sitting at home, I can just put on and enjoy some good sound, maybe fall asleep to.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the AKG 81DJ, however, I'm also considering the Alessandro MS-1 and Audio Technica ATH-SJ5.

The music I listen to is a lot of really brassy and drum heavy music (think modern broadway), some older jazz, rock, and piano.

I'd like to stay under $100, but I can stretch a little bit if necessary.

i had owned a pair of the big brothers, 325s, but the 60s have always gotten good reviews for bang for buck.

"The most varied group to be voted on, there was very little spread in the balloting with one exception: Grado's remarkable SR60 headphones. Both Corey Grrenberg and Sam Tellig raved about the SR60s in print. Pretty much every other writer who tried them voted for them."

Go for the Koss "Sportapros". Great sounding headphones only around $20, which will allow you to save for another purchase later. I use the them with my Cowin iAudio G3 unamped. If you need an encloded full sized headphone go for the Sony V6's.

And they may even look more stupid with those silly yellow pads, but the fans of the breed bought so many at one time that they drove Grados stockpile of them and manufacturing capability to be able to produce enough of them right into the ground.

It's true though, and everybody knows it. A "Gateway Drug" is always stupid.

Besides who cares. It's for home listening. They sound amazing that's what's important.
