I've been looking for a decent, closed headphone to use with my portable in noisy environments while reading/studying. I'm a proud Sony 7506 owner, but find their aggressive sound not very conducive to background listening. So far, it's looking like the ATH-M30 is my first choice - not too refined, but decent sounding and very mellow. Other things I have tried and (for this use) ruled out:

--Beyer 250-80: Needs more power than my portable can deliver

--Senn HD202: Too boomy

--Senn HD280: Similar problems to 7506, plus too ridiculous looking for public use

--Audio Technica ATH-M40: Flat sounding

Again, I need something closed, not too aggressive sounding, and good with a portable. I haven't tried the Senn 212, but from what I read it sounds like it suffers from similar problems to the 202.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The PX200's are bass-heavy mellow. They're more portable than anoy of those listed. If you're prepared to step up to proper sound with some lack of sealing (but no leakage), consider the Eggo MDR-D66.

Thanks bangraman.

How well do the PX200s block out external noise?

Fairly well. About 60-70% that of an MDR-7506 or slightly better than an Eggo.
Which is quite astonishing as the cups are only a bit more than an inch across...
