How many times have you been more interested in getting new equipment rather than listening to music on your exsisting stuff?

For about 10 years I had a basic system (vinyl,CD,amp and phones) and I never thought about upgrading, now I have a really great system but always seem to be looking around for new equipment to buy to get to the next level.
Does this sound familiar?

Well, ever since I found this website and these forums, I definitely became obsessed with equipment and upgrading. As of right now, I've stopped buying completely; especially since I can't afford anything right now.

But, I am happy and very satisfied with my Headphone gear now and do not see myself upgrading anytime soon.

It all does come down to the Music, which is most important.

I've always been searching for something a little better for audio, but until I got to Head-Fi I didn't actually consider spending some real money for it. A year ago if somebody told me I would own a $150 and a $70 set of headphones, $50 worth of headphone amp (plus the extra tools to build it with), a $25 audio cable, and an 18-year old portable CD player I'd of thought they were nuts. And I'm still on the low-end of stuff. When my bank account recovers from my recent computer upgrade and other stuff I purchased recently, I will likely be on the audio upgrade path again. But for now I can still sit back and enjoy how good my system sounds for how little I paid for it all, and more importantly how much I enjoy listening to the music on it

For me at least...after researching new equipment I get caught up in the rampant hyperbole of the net. I will frequent hi-fi shops and listen to their jargon but the best is that when they give me a demo...I'm left thinking..."heh, my headphone system sounds better than that

"

It is definitely difficult of those who are not able to hear the various types of gear out there (I myself still wait to hear some Headroom amps, the Singlepower line, an EAR HP4, Stax Omega II's and the Big O), so reading online really wets the palate.

The bug which infects many of us to try and achieve the perfect sound is such a demonic little creature. The perfect sound is of course relative...and thus, one at some point either needs to accept this and declare "Eureka! I've found it!" or...."It'll never happen, get over it..."

I've come to the conclusion now that my headphone setup can't really get better for me aside from the last bit of tweaking with my cdp and amp, some line conditioning, a granite slate and yeah...that'll do it.

then what? Well there is always vinyl and speakers...and then 5.1, oh...6.1...heh, why not even 7.2? It can be never ending...so enjoy your system and buy some music

I think I've managed to kick the upgradeitis bug. Finances just aren't allowing for chronic upgradeitis

But I think I've reached a similar conclusion as Zanth, but with a qualifier. For the amount of money that I've spent on my system, I think I've got a pretty damn good system. Time to spend more on music and less time eying a Cary, Maestrobator.. etc.

[Heh.. or maybe I haven't kicked the upgradeitis bug.... I just can't afford much better.
