I watched this series back in the 80s and was very impressed with the 13 one hour shows that I looked forward to it each week. I even put a cassette tape recorder at my TV speakers and taped the sound. The music was great as was the commentary by CARL SAGAN not to mention the great special effects of the solar system and such video.

Thur the years I tried to buy a VHS set of COMOS but could never find it. Well last week I was still trying to find COSMOS even though it is now about 25 years later. I was that impressed with it and WOW I found the collectors 6 remastered DVD box set at amazon.com. I also found the CARL SAGAN web site and the box set cost 180.00 there but at amazon I bought a used like new box set for 75.00. Does any else remember this series? If so what did you think of it?

I've never really seen the series but I thought the book was incredible -- I first read it in high school and it made me realize that I love math and science, it's just math and science class that I couldn't stand. That and Sagan's The Demon Haunted World are two of the most influential books I've ever read.

With the discoveries and developments of the last several decades, somebody (Carl is gone) should update this series. Hubbel telescope images, images from several passing and landing operations, new astrophysics understandings would all make for a fantastic updated Cosmos. Just have to find somebody to say "billions and billions" the right way.

It was a great series. Sagan had that captive magic as a teller. I wouldn’t mind watch it again.

Cosmos is one of the two greatest documentary miniseries ever. I watched the whole thing during a PBS pledge drive, and was blown away. The music, the images, and Sagan's commentary really added up to something great.

Ken Burns' The Civil War is the other great one. That is great for different reasons, though.

They used to air the series on Indian television back in the 80s too, the only American program at the time, IIRC. Great stuff, Sagan's voice still rings clearly in my mind. But yeah, they ought to incorporate evidence of the unified field theory and such.
