Hi.

I just bought my first pair of good headphones (at least compared to what I was previously using), Sennheiser HD590s. I am just wondering if there is anything that should be done to take care of such headphones (e.g. where to keep them (temperature, humidity, etc), cleaning them, servicing them, etc.). I am not sure if anything like this is really an issue, I was just wondering, because I want to take good care of them as it was a large investment for me.

Thanks for any help, it is much appreciated.

Don't forget to give 'em a good night kiss every evening. Most important thing to keep them happy

The only thing I do with my current main headphone when not in use (since it stays connected to amp when not in use) is let it lie on top of the CDP - no hangers, dummy heads (other than when I use them), coffins, or voodoo rituals...Although I do clean them with a damp cloth every other day.

I would use common sense and not subject your headphones to large temp or hum changes, direct sunlight, being near heat vents, etc. And don't go skateboarding in the rain with them on! I will say that I must live in the dampest house in the history of Head-Fi, because all of my straight headphone cables have become tangled/coiled in the middle of the cord. My DT 880 straight cable stayed pretty straight for the longest, but even it has become twisted from just hanging in the air. I wasn't joking when I said I needed an audiophile-grade de-humidifier.

I use a hanger with pads on the hook to keep the 650s off the table and keep it from being stepped on or nudged off the table.

I would also try not to get it anywhere near a window where dust could settle into the driver area.
