Hey gang. I drive an '85 Buick Regal and have a cd player head unit that a friend gave me (not yet installed, used to be worth around $300 or something like that, so it should be pretty good. I want to buy a simple but very good speaker system to get installed in the price range of.. 100-200 dollars, I guess. I'm not psychotic about volume or bass. I just want to listen to radiohead and bjork and mogwai while I drive and I want them to sound very decent, but I'm not expecting the same experience as I get with my HD600s or anything. Any suggestions for a basic speaker system I can find at The Wiz or Best Buy or IEI for that price range?

Depends a lot on your budget. I strongly suggest a sub. If your not interested in huge volume, use the head units amp to drive the speakers, turn the bass down a few notches to give that amp an easier time. You can get great deals on speakers if you buy used (amps too). I use a 10" Infinity sub with a 100 watt mono amp (50x2 Harmon Kardon, bridged, bought used for $90) Stock rear 6x9's and Boston Acoustic 6" in front ($50 from ebay) with a Nakamichi head unit (11 clean wpc). It won't play screaming loud, but the sound overall is wonderful. I don't like loud booming bass, but having the sub really fills out the bottom end and the music sounds full, warm and the bass is rich and detailed while being unstrained.
