would like some help with selecting 6/12 '' coax door speakers for a car . Ive narrowed the search between polk, boston and mb quart which all have models from 100 to $200 range.
listening in the stores gets confusing but so far Im leaning toward the polk.

HI: I got the alpine cd radio 40x4 and 4 polk 2 way speakers and it sounds great. Look for a sale on the polk speakers buy 2 and get 2 free

I've owned the same quad of MBQuart car speakers front and aft for nine years. They play an average of 10 hours a week, and I've NEVER had a problem with them. I've been very pleased with the build and sound quality of my set.

FWIW YMMV

After spending many thousands of dollars almost a decade ago, I loved the MB Quartz and spent more on those than any other non-sub speaker I had. They were separates, with the tweeter mounted higher up so that the soundstage and treble was better. Polks are very good also, and if they can be had for cheap, you probably won't go wrong with them either.

thanks for the info. I wound up getting a pair of Polk coax Ex365

very happy with them. They handle a surprising amount of power w/o breaking up.

Now I try to find reasons for running errands for the wife so I can listen to them.

I've read that Dynaudio car speakers are the best, but they're pretty expensive.

Standard advice: Go separates!

For brand I prefer the MBQs. Dynaudio does indeed make great drivers. Focal has also gotten into car audio, as has Seas. Don't forget to get a sub! 6.5" woofers in a door cannot compete with 125 square inches of rubber pounding against asphalt once you get rolling.

Fred, that sig is perfect, in a sort of full, rounded, pendulous sort of way!

My stereo? Hell yes! I cut the bulkhead between the passenger compartment and trunk from 1/8" T-6 aluminum. After that the rest was easy! I tried a couple of approaches before I found the right set of woofers and hooters, er, tweeters. Believe it or not the 16" sub was the most space efficient approach. I learned a ****load about car acoustics on that project.

Need a sub design for that Z06?

I got a big suprise on the Z06 front.I'll take some pics when it's done.I really don't listen to the stereo much when I drive that car but some ideas about the really awful system in my 2002 Yukon Denali XL would help.I would love to keep the factory head unit and in-dash CD Changer. The steering wheel controls are really nice too.

Too cool! You haven't been talking to that gent down in Indy who's last name starts with L have you? (we just refer to him as the "god of horsepower").

I will check into the Yukon D. Lots of space = lots of options. Unfortunately they deliberately make it difficult to tap into the factory systems these days. I just looked at an Infinity FX45 and I wasn't sure where the hell the center of mass of the sound system was. All I could tell was that there were logos everywhere that said "esoB". Course, I may have read it backward.

I'd like to know what's good in the car audio world also, is it all freaking SPL what goes loudest whos got most eq controls la la land, or are there any actual good sounding components?

I'll probably get an Alpine or Pioneer stereo 50watt MOSFET deck.

What about speakers (for truck)? I just want door mounted 2-way 6 1/2" components. I may add an 8 or 10" sub later on, no priority. I've heard Infinity Reference and they were ok I guess, I get countless comments that the kappa series is better, but for some reason I have a feeling I'd find it to be the other way. Anyway, a friend of mine says MB Quartz is what I should get if I want sound quality. However, my main interest are in Dynaudio drivers, how do they sound? Don't tell me go separates, I am completely against if for car speakers.

Also, is monster cable the only hookup wire you can get? Or are there better ones available such as Vampire?
