What qualities make a capacitor good for amplifying sound? How would the caps in this Flashlight fair?

Transistors and tubes amplify AC voltages, which when applied to a transducer of some sort, (speaker, headphone, crystal, etc) result in sound energy.

Many amplifier circuits use capacitors to pass this AC voltage to another circuit stage while blocking DC voltages (coupling capacitors, blocking capacitors) as well as for storage of supply energy.

Tubes and Transistors modulate the power supply voltage. They do not amplify, just act as valves. Correct?

I think you would have been ok if you had left off the word 'sound'. I knew what you meant...
