What happens when you swap the 400 Pro and 500 Pro cables and compare them again??

One turns in to Andromeda and the other turns in to the Solaris. :open_mouth:
HAHAHAHA. My wife asks me what was so funny, and i had to show her your post - of course she didn't laugh, but it made my day. Thank you for that!
I will report back later today with some comments on how the cables sound (not microphonics). :-D
Seriously though, i'll get back on this.

With Sennheiser's earphone cost savings practices of the past, I'm thinking there is a good chance the the 400 and 500 earpieces might just differ from the first digit printed on them. Had whole series of their earphones a few times and only the foam damping accounted for the improvement across 3 models. I'd say the chance is pretty high that the didn't spend $$$ to make any real changes outside of the cable. May be the same as before. So perhaps Just a small change so you can buy the cheaper model and get the same level with a little effort. $430 for the 400 Pro plus the cable vs. $599 for the IE500 Pro.

Guess iems0nly will have an opinion on it. $169 more for the 500 Pro and both with the same cable. Worth it?

Okay., so i tried switching the cables, and they sound pretty much the same with both the cables. the IE 500 Pros are still a significant step above the 400 Pro. The 400 Pro has a little extra mid-bass quantity compared to IE 500 Pro. This makes for an overall cleaner sound from the IE 500 Pro. The 500 driver is tuned better for maximum resolution and is also noticeably quicker. So, i would say the extra money gets you a better earphone in this case.
Comparing the silver cables vs black cables with IE 500 Pro, i tend to think the sub-bass reaches slightly deeper and makes for a slightly better soundstage, albeit by not so much. But, it might as well be a placebo effect.

Whats wrong with the cables they come with?
Guess they don't have a balanced option out of the box, unlike the IE800S which covers you for everything, from single-ended to 4.4 balanced straight out of the packaging. Hopefully we can get cheap options for balanced from the third parties mentioned.

I would be interested in more comparisons with IE800/IE800s. I have both, and they are wonderful earphones, but tad too warm at times for classical. The IE500 Pro seem to be a perfect alternative in this regard, delivering ER4-like sound, with more soundstage and less painful insertion. Hope this is the case!

Anybody been messing around with these 2 new PROs

I recently got the IE 400 Pro. Finding it fantastic in quick straight forward musical presentation. For 349, the sound is wonderful
Only gripes for now, is no normal MMCX connection, so cannot swap out other cables. Also wish there was a few more accessories.

These are incredibly light and super small IEMs. Almost stick out of ear 0%.

599 for the IE 500 pro is a bit sweep for my wallet. So I chose the lesser.

Has anyone had both IE 400 & 500 pro?

Anyone have anything to add about these models?

Hi Guys, just a little note on the cables. I had not clearly mentioned this in my review:
The IE 400 Pro and the IE 500 Pro use the same cable connectors and can be swapped. For whatever mad reason, the IE 40 Pro uses a dedicated cable connector that cannot be used with the 400 and 500 Pro.
So, remember, you can't use the IE 400 cables with IE 40 Pro or vice versa.
I've now updated my review with this information highlighted.
