i live in ireland and , although i can find a few F series on ebay, i cant find the X series anywhere for sale. can anyone point me in the right direction?

www.warehouse123.com I know they sell it for $285. (that's the MEG-X30 30 Gb, the X60 60 GB is more expensive) Don't know if they'll ship to Ireland. You can email them. Shipping will probably be over $25.
Also www.geekstuff4u.com sells the X-Series. I think they sell it for about $315. (this too is the price for the X30 30 GB, not sure the price on the X60 60 GB) I think they'll ship internationally, but their shipping rates are expensive.
Also you could wait for the Toshiba Gigabeat S-Series. More info. on that player at: www.mygigabeat.com
