I currently have a pair of Q701s which I adore but I've noticed that the bass is a bit lacking (I'm no bass-head, but still) and that, because it's open-backed, I can hear everything around me. I'm looking for a pair of headphones with very good isolation and bass that is significant, but still not overwhelming. To give a threshold of sorts, I've tried the DT770 (80 ohm) and I found that the bass is far too overwhelming everywhere. It seemed to mask sounds with bass well into the mids. Do the DT770 (250 ohm) fix this problem? I was looking into the K550 but I've read that getting a good fit for maximum isolation is very difficult and this is very important to me. So should I go with it anyway or should I go in another direction? Thanks in advance.

First post is a troll. Nice to meet ya.

On a serious note, while the K550 does a much better job at isolation, it won't necessarily have more bass than the Q701. I found the D5000 to be a better companion to the K701 than the K550 when I had both. What about something like the ES10? It's a portable and easily driven too.

K550 are bass shy, if you want to try a new kind of sound i'd look on another brands.

M-audio Q40 have good bass and mids.

I think D5000 may be a great choice (albeit a little out of my price range but whatever) but are you sure it has really solid isolation? Here the guy is talking about the D2000 and I'm not sure if it applies to the higher models: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYQ_PPvD9Bk&t=3m45s   Otherwise I think if the bass is good too that the D5000 might just be the way to go.

FYI the isolation on the D5000 is not the best, it will leak at high volume levels.

As for the ES10: from what I read the bass is way too much for me.

Then the DT1350. I don't know why I keep suggesting portables.

The bass goes way deep though. Fantastic little can.
