Hi All,

I am about to purchase an electronic drum kit, i guess the model is not important to know by i'll give it to you anyway (Yamaha DTXpress III). Although it is advertised as one of the quietest drum kits, i still would like to hear it

That is why, i have turned to you, experienced can users, for a bit of advice.

Which headphones would you recommend for this type of activity? I guess it needs to handle the low tones reasonable well. I will be pretty much skinned after the purchase, so price is very important to me, as well as comfort of the phones (all those long sessions).

Thanks for any comments,

Make sure you get CLOSED headphones. Nothing drove me more crazy longterm about my Roland set than the feel and sound of the false pads. Ety canal phones would probably be best. Anything DARK would be very very poor choice, dead drums aren't very fun to play.

Tell you this though, unless you HAVE TO use e-drums get the real deal. Its cheaper and you won't get as bored as quickly. Mine are gone because it just isn't the same as a real set. I actually preferred not playing to playing my Roland set

Thanks for your advice. I have to, haven't the option of soundproof room and sticking "real" drum kit into a shed isn't the best for it. Could you just explain this please: Ety canal phones would probably be best. Anything DARK would be very very poor choice. Also which roland set did you use?

Thanks

Ety 4P ear canal headphones are very flat and have awesome isolation. The 'brain' of your Yamaha set could drive them easily as well making them an ideal choice. The term 'dark' in audio pretty much means something withdrawn, distant and undynamic. Pretty much everything playing drums, isn't.

I don't remember the exact model but it was the mid level set with 5 dual trigger pads and 3 single ones. The brain had some 200+ sets in it if memory serves. I used Senn headphones at the time, bad bad choice looking back.
