Very interesting write up. Thx for sharing.

The T+A Setup you tested, you only wrote about the Solitaire P(aluminum frame) the pictures in focus Show the Solitaire P-SE(black frame) Which one were you referring to?

Those are 2 different headphones and not just different colors, in case you were unaware of this
Ah, I stand corrected! They were indeed the black frame ones, so the Solitaire P-SE. Thank you for the correction

Well the good part here is, the P-SE which you liked costs significantly less at 3100€ compared to the 5200€ of the Solitare P.

Glad to see this bad boy getting some love. And yes, it is huge! When compared to their other smaller components, it truly dwarfs them when they're side-by-side!! Its measurements are 17.5"W x 4.4"H x 13.1"D and it weighs 26lbs.:sweat_smile:You definitely get your $4000 worth!

After hearing how good it sounded, and with you guys saying the 500 series DACs also sound excellent for the $$$, I'm now VERY interested picking up one of their older DACs from the used market and giving it a try. :sunglasses:
I took a leap of faith and ordered blind. The TEAC UD-701 arrived last week. It is indeed huuuuge (see photo with RME ADI and Node stacked on top).

The size isn't just a thick chassis, either. It's the three iron core toroids inside, among other things.

And, it's the first DAC I've had in my system where I have zero feeling that something is somehow missing in terms of SQ. I'm no expert. But I've owned or demoed RME, Mola Mola, T&A200 and several less famous DACs. It's only been a week, but so far TEAC seems to punch well above its weight.

I agree, I think the UD-505 is one of the most underrated DACs on the market. I am hoping to purchase a UD-701n next year. I love the flexibility with voltage, upconverting, and now they have added an XLR for headphones along with a streamer. Plus a reference quality DAC. It is an extremely attractive box too... Curious how the new UD-505x sounds as well with AKM to Sabre DAC.
I ended up going a different direction, but the UD-701n remains a DAC/Streamer of curiosity. It gets incredible reviews and I would love to hear it.
