CanJam London 2022 Impressions Thread (July 30-31, 2022)

You been to Disneyland 140 times! Holy schiit :)

I been there 1st and it was amazing. Might go again for Mickey 100th birthday.

🤣 Because my family was the Southern California branch of my family, we were required to be tour guides any time out-of-state family and friends came to visit. Later on in high school, a friend of mine worked there during the summer, and could get two people in free every day. We basically spent summers there, hanging out the way other kids would hang out at a shopping mall. And of course, there were the times when I went to go with SWGOH friends. It all adds up rather quickly.

140 visits in roughly 8 weeks did seem a bit obsessive.
Adding more context helps everyone to understand better. :relaxed:

Dayum, I see all sorts of exotic equipment on display that doesn't seem to travel over for the US CanJams. I may have to book a UK vacation about a year from now... :relaxed:

Quick and superficial thoughts:

I've been trying to find a great headphone system for the DCA Stealth.

The Mola Mola Tambaqui with the Riviera Labs AIC 10 was exceptional. No clue whether it was the DAC or Amp that contributed the most to the sound, but the combination was definitely end game. I suspect I would take this over the dCS Lina Stack. The dynamics of this combo was unbeatable with the Stealths. Just a beautiful neutral sound with immense detail and sound stage with insane dynamic range.

The Zahl HM1 which is what I really went to the show to try was just wow! This amp looks so much better in person, and a lot of the features I thought I wouldn't use were actually very impressive. This is definitely going to be my endgame amp with the Stealth. It's so effortless and natural, so detailed and just so engaging. I'll be combining this with the Mola Mola Tambaqui for my system and I can't wait. The HM1 was so good that I kept checking to see if there was some fishy setting turned on, but I tried it with all settings on default. The left to right separation is the best I've heard. The HM1 is not trying to be impressive. It just is!

I actually thought the Chord Anni and Qutest was a very nice little system with relatively great value for money.

One of the prongs on my U12T cable was broken and one of the nice gentleman at the 64Audio booth gave me a replacement cable at the end of the show. Thanks so much!
I think mostly Riviera while Mola Mola is dope too. Just wonder how about the quantity and quality of bass for this combo?

Can anyone compare the Meze 109 with the ZMF Atrium?

Can I get a few impressions of the audeze mm-500 please
Sure, that was the first thing I tried out after CanJam officially started and was chatting with the Audeze team about it and the CRBN. I understand why Audeze isn't yet sampling these around to reviewers who cater to our crowd, it's the headphone equivalent of a neutral Etymotic set but with less pinna gain from my listening. There's not much elevation going on and it got darker quicker than my LCD-5 from recent memories, but was quite close in resolution and also took EQ like a champ when paired with the Weiss 502 DAC they had. Monitors first, audiophile listening maybe after tuning to your preferences. LCD-X is what I'd recommend to most people here, although the MM-500 is a good first entry to a new lineup for a new market that I understand will have more entries coming up sooner than later.

So RME had an HM1 at Canjam London and it was fantastic to spend a bit more time with it.

Not just with the HEDD they had there (which unfortunately I can’t really use because it does not fit people with enormous noggins like myself), but with some other great cans.

Firstly, the Hifiman Susvara (thank you Mark!)

But also the truly excellent Raal CA1A (thank you Danny!)

Both of these sounded absolutely incredible.
The amount of control and grip this thing can present is just second to none. And with Susvara the stereo base adjustment was VERY impressive.

I absolutely cannot wait to spend time with an HM1 at home. It’s the most impressive amplifier I’ve heard to date and everything I’ve heard on it has been arguably the best experience with each respective headphone.
It’s not just a great amp for one headphone, it’s stellar with EVERYTHING.
Stealth, CA1A, susvara, t60 argons, hedd, Diana TC, they all just shine on this device.

It’s so impressively honest and neutral but with such incredible impact, engagement and tweaks to make anything sound even more incredible. It puts a smile on my face like very few other devices do
Just curious, going off memory, how would you compare the HM1 to the Oor?

The atrium does not feel nearly as heavy as the weight would suggest due to an excellent headband design and ideal clamping force. And this is coming from someone who is very picky about comfort and weight (I even find the utopias uncomfortable).
