Whats going to stay in my ear better? Canalphone (not IEM, more like ATH-CK7 style) or earbud like Yuin PK2 or Sony E888?

Jogging there will be some bouncing and I am sure the cords will bounce pulling on the headphones.

I'm worried that canalphones might slip out easier because they kind of are fluffy or soft and rely on expansion of the plug to fit, instead of relying on being wedged in place?

Take this for what it is worth . . . I am a n00b here but a seasoned runner.

I recommend against nearly anything you read about here to run with. IEM's and some canalhones have too much isolation for running. I am not a crusty old runner who says runners should not use headphones . . . I run with my ipod about 25% of the time.

The best bet is to get a sports style headphone that allows the outside world in. And then keep it low.

Now, if you run on a treadmill, put in an IEM and have at it.

I run with my Vibes without trouble. Granted there isn't heavy traffic but still, on a lower volume they don't block sound too bad. Still, I'm much more careful when running with them in. That said, if you are using a track or treadmill etc. then you shouldn't have a problem with any sort of IEM or canalphone will stay in fine for you and you shouldn't have to worry about being too isolated, so any type of either should be fine.

I have tried running with jvc marshmellows but the preasure
of the good seal and the jarring of any sprints I was doing kind
of anoyed my head. Regular ones have alot of wind noise.
I wouldn't purchase iems for running specifically, either way
its not great just ok.

V-Moda Vibe is made for it, no problem running/biking/rock climbing, my experience other IEMs I tried did not go too well.

X 2.
I agree completely. I think IEMs and canalphones may produce too much isolation for running outdoors where it might prove to be detrimental in blocking out outdoor noises, lowering awareness of your surroundings and causing safety issues.
On the otherhand, earbuds always tend to fall out during jogging or running and I find they are more ideal for casual walking. Running on a treadmill however, I find IEM's work great- the isolation proves great for retaining focus. Running outside, I use a behind-the-neck headphone such as the Sennheiser PMX60.

Actually (and do not tell anyone here) I use my apple stock ibuds when I run. They rest in my ear comfortably and never (and I mean never) fall out when I am running. I can run for 2+ hours and they do not move at all. They do not seal - they sit in a spot and leave an open space. Gravity and the cord keeps them from going up (which is how they would come out).

As far as the isloation issue . . . my point is 50% about safety and 50% about sound and enjoyment. Safety can be debated. I spend a lot of time on running forums, and some seem to think the second you put on headphones you will die and be raped and be eaten by a wild animal. Those are all unlikely in most situations of course - but everything is a risk assessment. If you run on fitness paths only, stay on the right side (at least here in the states) and do not turn or stop suddenly without looking - you are probably fine without hearing the outside world. If you are on the streets, then it is a larger risk, but you are still statistically fairly safe.

The sound issue is the other part. If they isolate, they keep the outside world out and the inside world in - that is not good. You will hear your footsteps and heartbeat and breathing. Then you have to crank up the ipod even more.

When you jog the music is there for background noise so quality is not needed. PLus you dont want to smother your nice phones with sweat. I use KSC75's or my stock Sansa buds. Also heat builds up in your ears when jogging, so canal or IEM's dont seem like a good choice.....

Just received my Senn OMX70's and they are just fine for serious training and exercise. I sweat a lot and they work perfect for me. The rehab/gym I go to is not quiet and yet I did not have to raise the volume to hear my music. These are NOT canalphones, rather they sit on the edge of the canal. Pressure is very light and they work with glasses too. I only use custom molds/IEMs in my race car and they are not good for much else since they are designed to isolate. If you can find, as others have, a pair that will let outside sounds in as mine do-that is a much safer way to go if you will be on the road. Sennheiser also has a solution in their MX75 Twist-n-Fit version of these phones. Target has them to at least look at. I cannot wear Marshmallows as the foams are too large for my canals. I used to run and work out with my trusty Koss KTSPro1's until the foams got soaked and needed replaced often. The advantage of the Senn's is that they are designed for vigorous activity. Yes-they are Green-but who really cares

That's my 2 cents.
