I got a question to the Canadians that have made purchases from HeadRoom. Did you get hit hard with brokerage/customs fees and taxes?

I am from Toronto and looking to make some purchases there and was wondering what the odds of you getting hit with extra fees once they cross the border. Thanks.

Those kinds of ludicrous fees only apply when you receive something shipped via UPS. Canadians should never order anything internationally shipped via UPS Ground. In many cases it actually doubles the total cost of the item, and that's not counting the amount actually paid to UPS in the first place just to ship the item. It's a total scam by UPS. There have been multiple informative threads about this. You might find it helpful to do a search.

If at all possible, choose USPS (US Postal Service) when purchasing items internationally. Anything shipped via USPS only costs $6+PST/GST to get into the country if it's coming from the US.

FedEx is a middle ground in terms of cost. They don't publish their rates online and I've never seen a complete rationalization of their pricing structure, but generally they end up being between the other two options in price.

UPS Express (ONLY Express, not Ground) has no hidden fees, but you pay through the nose up front, and I don't recommend them for the simple reason that they scam people on Ground shipments.

Since Headroom only ships internationally via FedEx, I would call FedEx Canada before ordering from them to find out what the exact charges will be (ask about both "brokerage" and "disbursement" and any other miscellaneous fees).
