What would the perfect set of headphones sound like? Do headphones try to mimick real life?

How would you best quantify the "perfect" set of cans?

Thanks for replies!

it would have super-tight, controlled, extended bass. a lush, fast, detailed midrange. a sparkling, crisp high end. a flat, even +/- .00001 dbl response from 1 hertz to a million. it would cost 5 bucks, be indestructible, fold up and fit in my pocket, be undectectably light and comfy, and be delivered by a naked, horny, and not too picky alyson hannigan.

oh, and it would provide me 100 dbl of isolation from everything except warnings for things that are about to kill me, and the voices of people bringing me food, sex, cash or drugs.

oh yeah, it would also have a solar powered blockhead built in, along with a solar powered .wav player and a terabyte of solid state memory. but that may be asking too much.

In other words, it would sound like real life?

Edit: And mow the lawn and wash the dishes.

Isn't that a paper tiger[]? I would think that a perfect set would be a personal opinion based on whatever you end up with after upgrading and when you are satisfied. You just have to judge and audition for yourself to see what works for you.

alyson hannigan is the most beautiful girl i've never met.

and what i've learned is that audiophilia is not about reproducing live music. it's about reproducing recorded music. so in the end it's all about what touches you. how exactly you like your music to sound. audiophilia is a very subjective thing.

if you want a realistic suggestion...i'd say the best thing available now....r10, orpheus...wutever the hell fits your boat...and get every album you have and have them recorded in binaural to get that speaker-like/real-life like imaging.

I think I understand now.

By the way, Goose, whats your gear? I think I have similar tastes to you in both phones and music. So maybe I'll upgrade to something you have.

And here's an obscure question: How do the V6's and Shure E2C compare? I ask about these phones because I think I'de be interested in something like the V6's just I want 'em as earbuds (so I can sleep in them, and so my dormates and I wont hear each other).

Thanks alot all!!!!!

The highs of the Orpheus
The mids of the HP-1000
The lows of the Stax Lamda Signature Nova
The soundstage of the Orpheus yet retaining the imtimacy of the HP-1's
The portability of the Ety's (without the microphonics and appearance of the wires sticking out)
You don't have to stick it far in your ear canals
Has the option to be sealed or open (without leaking)
Has the sensitivity for even your pocket fm radio (yup goodbye amps)

In a perfect world....
