comabereni,

I see the word "Prestige" on the left earcup of the headphones in the "before" picture. That is a giveaway that those Grados are your modded SR-325's.

Yes, I call it the 325 "Lite".

I had already modified them internally to where they sounded a lot better than they did originally (see my sig for details), but they were just too heavy to be comfortable sitting on top of my ears. Taking them apart, I convinced myself the aluminum had no effect on the sound (it's a cosmetic upgrade to justify some of the increase in price, IMO). The entire interior of the aluminum chamber is sleeved in plastic.

So I chucked the aluminum enclosures on my lathe and reduced their weight by about half. I reassembled the cans and put them in my MS1 headband--because the leather only adds to the weight, making them more uncomfortable. The completed headphone is now probably only a few grams heavier than the plastic Grados. Ahhh, what a relief. I can hardly tell I'm wearing them.

Here's a photo of the modified cans in the original 325 leather band. Note the nice metal nuts on the rods--I turned them on my lathe as well, and they are threaded onto the rods. Note that the silver on the "L" and "R" has been carefully removed.

Ah well. It's all about the sound, and the comfort. I notice two pairs of MS2's were sold in the past week due to the fact they were too uncomfortable to wear.

Problem solved.

Yes, I thought about that. I have a friend with an anodizing tank who could do any color I wanted. Perhaps violet blue would look nice?

By the way, this mod of mine is proof Grados are high-school metal shop build quality.

EDIT: MS2 and SR-325 owners will be discouraged to know the inset lettering in the ring around the grills is not cast into the metal and then machined off. It is a plastic insert. The lettering rubs off just like the "L" and "R" do on the headband. What a let down--I thought I'd turn off the tops of the letters to renew them using my lathe, only to discover it is a black plastic ring.

Thanks Nismo, but I changed my mind about trading bands about 20 seconds after I made the offer. I think it will be fine with my MS1's. Sorry about that.
