Yes, I can enjoy the music, if it's good, even if it's at 128kbps Mp3. Under certain circumstancesI can even enjoy good music through a cheap gettoblaster.

I do prefer to use lossless though, because I can enjoy the music a lot more like that. If I can encode lossy files myself, I tend to use OGG Vorbis, rather than MP3, as to my ears they sound better compared to MP3 at the same compression ratio. Compression at Q7, Q8, Q9 and Q10 all sounds better than MP3 at 320kbps to my ears. Q10 at about 500kbps comes very close to lossless at a little over half of the file size.

192 and above, yeah OK...but give me FLAC anyday. OGG Q9/10 is pretty good too. Can I hear the diff? With some recordings on FLAC, yes...but it's simply peace of mind...if I've got the space, I go FLAC. Less - then OGG > MP3 320 > 256 > 192 .

If it has to be 128 > if not a rare recording, I'll read a book

I usually use 300-350 kbps ogg, it's really very good, more than other lossy formats.
I loose some soundstage and airness, but it's so near to flac and wav and sometimes hard to distinguish witha a poratble player.

But more than compression, i think the real problem to enjoy compress musica can be the player.
Listening to 320 kbps with a mp3 player can be enjoyable; bur listening to 320 kbps with a good cdplayer/DAC/amp can be great!

192 mp3 is the lowest I can go without being able to tell the difference. 192 and 128 are pretty much the same everywhere if you listen to music with no jumbled passages or cymbals/snares.

Can I enjoy lossy music though most of my headphones? Yes.

Am I 100% sure that I can tell the difference between lossy and lossless 100% of the time with 100% of my music? No.

Do I prefer listening to lossless by a wide margin? Yes.

Of course, all of this doesn't apply to the O2. It's in a different category entirely when it comes to resolution and lossy music becomes much less palatable.

Seems a lot of you don't follow live DJ mixes. Mixes in 320 are very hard to come by. Most are at 192 and the worst quality one I have is 165. There's nothing I can do about it. It's quality music and I'm not going to delete it just because the recording itself is not up-to-par.

Of course, I have a lot of tracks that are 128, which I'm trying to get rid of. Basically, my goal is to have nothing left under 192 by the end of the year (either by finding better versions or making the hard choice of deleting it, OTHER than my beloved mixes).

The 128 format is for music demo over the web, as well the 192.

I've heard some music through the KUSC (a Los Angeles classical station) web feed at 128 kbs that was enjoyable. When I purchased the CD, the higher resolution made it obvious that it was flawed. This was an old recording that had been processed so heavily through a de-hisser that no life was left in it. For some reason it was enjoyable at 128 kbs but not on CD.

I can really enjoy a low-resolution, warm, sloppy sound if the music is good. (Like my car stereo or clock radio.)

I do always hunt for hours/days/weeks for not just flac but perfect log's and cue files. But for stuff that just has no cd around sometimes you have to suffer. Most of my stuff that is below 320 is on my old desktop harddrives in a shoebox until I get a IDE usb enclosure. But atm I just use my 3TB drive setup for music and 99% is FLAC/CUE/LOG100% BOOM!

I can enjoy songs I know on lower quality but something Im hearing for the first time I am picky about details to a fault but after I know I like the song and get the emotion behind it than it doesnt matter if it's FLAC or not most of the time. V0 I like better than 320kbps havent heard OGG maybe I should try it out. But when you have FLAC there is no need to try other things you are already at the TOP!

Only quesiton is: FLAC Vinyl Rip or FLAC CD Rip?
