Hi,

I’m looking to build a PC transport to play Hi Rez music eg.24bit/192khz 24bit/96khz and also EAC 16bit 44.1khz Rips.

The soundcard in question is M-Audio Audiophile 192, can this card output 24bit 192khz via coaxial s/pdif to my DAC???

My DAC is CA 840C and it can accept 24bit 192khz…

Thanks

Cheers,

Hi,
How about email to the company? You can't trust any of these guys websites. I had a similiar issue where this was supported, I tried to make it work, wouldn't work, email to comany, found out they had issues. Different card, same question though.

I have a M-Audio Revo 5 (similar dac and envy chips as AP192) which will play 192 through the DAC. When I sent the 192 SPDIF to my Zhaolu 2.5 it would not synch up reliably. The M-Audio SPDIF outputs use a pulse transformer for isolation like you see on professional equipment. The Zhaolu uses a CS8416 SPDIF receiver without a pulse transformer on the input, if that helps.

Thanks Guys.
Just an update, it's been confirm by M-audio Tech support that this card can output in 24/192 via s/pdif.

I had a Revo7 then a Revo5 now an AP2496 and I mostly use the SPDIF out but the analog (5532 opamp) is also good. The drivers are also good.

I have visions of better cards but the SuperDAC is good for me with LME49710 opamps and Black Gate NX caps in the signal path.

Stick with external DAC and dont worry about soundcard DAC section. Soundcard should just be a digital transport to external DAC via S/PDIF.

I have just finish building my computer transport. The soundcard I’m using is the M-Audio Audiophile 192. The reason i like this card is that it doesn’t need a breakout cable for S/PDIF out via Coaxial. It also supports 24bit 192khz, confirm by M-Audio tech support.

I have no problems playing Hirez, eg 24bit 192khz, 24/176.4, 24/96 wav or FLAC file using foobar2000 using M-Audio ASIO driver via Audiophile 192 S/PDIF coaxial to my CA840C DAC. Everything sounds wonderful, the biggest improvement using this computer as transport is soundstage. It has really open up, comparing the same song using EAC rip and listening to the CD via 840C cd transport, the EAC rip 16bit 44.1khz is more open, soundstage is push back giving you more width and depth. The cd on the other hand, the soundstage is closer and sounding more congested. Have not try upsampling to 24bit 192khz via SRC (secret rabbits code) yet...

But I’m having my doubts on the M-Audio Audiophile 192 capability of sending out 24bit. I can confirm that its can support 192khz sampling rate using 840C DAC. But it seems that it can’t output in 24bit word width according to my DAC.

As you can see the picture above the DAC is reporting <=20/192 from M-Audio Audiophile 192 S/PDIF coaxial, meaning maximum 20bit and 192khz sampling rate according to the 840C manual .

So the question is, can the M-Audio Audiophile 192 really able to send out 24bit 192khz???

Or is it sending data in 24bit but my DAC is not displaying correctly?

Cheers

Yeah in foobar2000 its show 24bit 192khz. The file is huge like 296mb for about 4min 30secs of music.

Yeah like a said earlier I'm not upsampling anything software or hardware before it hits the DAC.

Just try a 24bit 176.4khz file and the 840C only show 88.2KHz instead of 176.4KHz. But the song plays fine.

I also try other sampling rates 44.1,48,88.2 and 192khz, the DAC shows correct sampling rate for all except 176.4 which show 88.2..... strange!

Now its more confusing on which hardware is correctly showing or sending the right info.....
