I am strongly considering purchasing an Esoteric DV-50s due to it's unique blend of audio and video capabilities. There is one problem however; I don't have a true 1080p display at the minute. I do have a Dell 3007WFP and the HP 30in screen.

Now I know that the Dell and HP don't have componet inputs or anything like that, but the Esoteric does have a DVI output for video signal. It's also an upconverting 1080p player. What i'm wondering is if the Esoteric unit will be able to be hooked up to either 30in display and produce a 1080p image?

I'm aware that the monitor's have no internal scaler, but if the player has the upconverting hardware inside of it, shouldn't it technically not matter?

The Dell screen does have HDCP compliance, so you're halfway there. Unfortunately the screen's resolution seems to be 2560x1600, which no scaling DVD player can do. In fact, standalone video scalers will have trouble reaching that high a resolution.

You're probably stuck using Power DVD or the like with it, unless you want to much around with video capture cards and dScaler or something.
