Can somebody tell me why I cannot go a week with without seeing a thread about a noob whining because he can't post in the FS area? Do we need to put the instructions in GIANT bold type plastered across the home page or something. Why is it a noobs first order of business to sell his gear here before he reads the instructions. After all, all the members of this forum have just been waiting for some noob to join so we can relieve him of all his highly sought after gear, right?

Rant over: there nothing to see here, move along.

Because like me you react when members miss the Sticky Threads!

I find it strange too, since logically the first thing to do is to find out how the system works and what the rules are, especially when possibly big chunks of money is involved, as it often is with hi-fi gear.

Maybe they are too rich to care?

That'd actually be pretty cool. Maybe then in the future people who only want to sell/trade would pass over Head-Fi because they wouldn't know that we had a FS/FT forum

Probably possible, but then they would just complain about how they can't see the section at all.

Probably, but what about n00bs that merely want to buy some nice used gear?

I'm quite sure this is how it works at the Steve Hoffman forums. I was a member there for several years before reaching 50 posts, and suddenly there as a For Sale forum! I'll ask Jude about it and see what he says. Then we would simply need to remove the for sale threads from the member's lounge instead.

I think we should make bigguy that enforcer! Have you seen the size of this man?

Funny how this thread has not been closed as a recent one on this same subject.

If you alienate all noobs, you risk losing access to new sales or new acquisitions. Rather, it would be helpful if the message presented to the new forum members with less than 50 osts or one month of membeship restriciting them from posting on the For Sale Forums, would direct them to a link to the sticky explaining the forum rules.

In my original post I was going to suggest that the FS section be invisible until they are qualified but as soon as I typed it I immediately realized that the "Why can't I post" crying would just become "Why can't I see" threads. I deleted that suggestion and waited for someone else to bring it up. It didn't take long to appear.

We are not trying to alienate noobs but frustration (like when training young children) begins to take its toll on experienced members.

Can we make the sticky requirement thread more visible? Bolder or red or something to attract the noobs attention? Like childrens toys that are brightly colored or shiny. Even us old guys respond to shiny stuff.
