I see that that front panel that comes with the card has a pair of line-ins for "passing your favorite vinyl LPs to your computer." But what if I just want to listen directly, playing from my turntable and have the sound come right out of the card. Will that work? Will that act like DAE and put a big strain on my computer (athlon 700@850, 256mb ram)?

cheers

i don't have a turntable, otherwise i'd experiment for you. i know it has phono-in capabilities, but i believe it's built into the drivers and therefor shouldn't be a very intensive thing to run.. but i can't say for sure. or if you just buy a phono stage, you can use line-in and then it wouldn't matter.

From Terratec:

"You can only use the phono in feature (RIAA filter) for recording from
vinyl records. Unlike with the Windows drivers the filter is not active
while listening the records.

To use the phono feature you need to turn on the 6fire.riaa flag with
ossmix/ossxmix and also set envy24.rate to 48000. Then record using 16
bits/stereo/48000 Hz from the last analog input port."

That response was from the ppl that make the oss drivers (for OSs like freebsd, linux, etc) and therefore, only applies to these. No wonder the response sounded confusing.

Terratec's reponse:

"You can monitor in real time."

So the answer is "yes" if you're using windows.
