Newbie question regarding high impedance cans -

I understand that it is not advisible to use 250 ohm or 600 ohm cans directly out of a portable source like an ipod without amplification. The ipod simply does not have the power to drive these cans, right? But what if the cans are plugged into the headphone jack of a home-theatre receiver?

A receiver will work fine and should be safe. I used a Denon 2802 with the 600 Ohm AKG K240M. SQ was not optimal but nothing caught on fire.

I powered DT770 250ohmers out of a home theater reciever, and depending on the reciever, it can sound pretty decent (duh).
