I have an older Beyer DT990 (about 12 yrs old) and the headphone plug seems intermittent at times although most of the time it's fine. I think it has to do with the strain cable. If it's not angled right the connection isn't perfect. Can the Beyer cables be replaced like the Senns?

Thx.

beyers don't have a connector like the senns, but if you can solder, you can replace the cable. The beyers disassemble pretty easily.

Use extreme caution soldering/desoldering the solder pads on the drivers.... Its very delicate work being that the coil wire is VERY thin and fragile. Do not use too hot of an iron or too much flux (just a little goes a long way with a 15-20 watt iron). Ive ruined several drivers in the recent past.

If changed plugs on my 20 years old Beerdynamic DT 990.

As mentioned above you can alwys solder a new cable to the driver.

I'm glad the DT250 cable can be replaced (http://beyerdynamic.com/com/product/index.htm) but I bet it'll cost a good amount of money, especially if imported.

Hmm...bhphotovideo has beyer cables, but only a few. Since it's done by special order, I bet could call their number and request a specific beyer cable if possible.

You propably be better off buying a premium cable, adding a phono plug and hardwiring it to your headphones.

What I want to do is add lemos to my beyers so I can make replacable cables. I'm still looking for the right lemo jacks tho (or mini din, etc)

Just cut off the stock plug and get yourself a quality aftermarket one to solder on - or send them off to Larry @ Headphile

I didn't know that they changed the earpad style. When I called Beyer to order earpad replacements I explicitly told them it was an older DT990. They sent me earpads that are completely incompatible.

This pair of phones is beginning to seem more trouble than it's worth to me.

May have to switch to a new pair of Grados or Senns.

No points for lousy Beyer customer service.

Are you talking about the foam over the drivers?

If so, I would remowe it and not replace it. That's what I did. That should give you a little more detail.
