Preferrably something that isn't too expensive (I'm really trying not to spend more than $50) and also easily purchaseable (is that even a word?). For example, I can get it at Target, BB, CC or Walmart. I really just want something to play my cd's in since my Ipod video is have supreme battery issues (I'm not even getting 3 hours out of it) and my Sansa Clip doesn't have lossless support as of yet. I'd also like to have a backup in case all else fails.

Let me know. Thanks.

I'm sure there are, but that still doesn't give me any idea of which one to get.

The Sansa Clip just got updated to support Ogg Vorbis, if it interests you.
And back to the topic- you can't really go wrong with any Sony or Panasonic Discman.

Yeah, I just saw that on the forums. Great to see them update the feature list so frequently. I just wish they would add a negative timer to the main screen.

I'm a little weary of Sony products since I've owned so many in the past, ranging from headphones, to Discmans, to "you name it" and they have ALL fell apart.

So, Panasonic will probably have to be the way to go.

Sorry for not being able to let the last post stay un-commented:

Yes, Sony equipment usually has just consumer-level in durability and SQ.

BUT - There are some (few) noteworthy exceptions. e.g. some of their (mostly bulky and powerconsuming) PCDPs made in the nineties (or, even, last years of the eighties). If you get a fifteen-years-old device from ebay (following model recommendations here in the forum) you'll find it working flawlessly. (OK, you might have to clean the lens.) AND you'll find it sounding stunningly good (again, if you adhered to recommendations). That's true even for some of the plastic versions (i.e. D-32 and D-33). (You may ask me for a PM with the serial numbers of the vintage Sony PCDPs I own and the rate of broken ones if you don't believe in prose text)

Don't get me wrong, when buying a brand-new $30 Sony CD Walkman now, you almost can be sure it'll break down after some use.

just my 2 ct.
