tubs=tube *edit*
Hi, I recently purchased the amplifier pictured above and was wondering if anyone could ID it (or perhaps the design it's based on)

It has two RCA inputs, two headphone outputs (not sure why...) and speaker binding posts.

Also, does anyone know if lower impedance headphones would function with this amplifier.

Thanks,
Rob

well, 300 to 600 Ohms is written pretty clearly by the headphone outs so I wouldn't try using it with low impedance headphones. there must be a reason they put such a specification by the outputs, so best to follow.

can't help you ID the amp though... looks like something from China?

Single Ended Transformer coupled output.
Definitely made in china.

What is the tube compliment.

The only info I can find is

TUBES: 6N8P X 2 6p13p X 2
CLASS A single end CIRCUIT
non magnet steel CABINET
Output Impedance : 4, 8 ohm
max Output Power : 12 W x 2 Class A
INPUT: 300MV
Frequency Response : 5Hz - 200KHz
T.H.D. : < 0. 2% 20Hz - 20KHz

So, what do you think the approximate value is?

The value seems to be three hundred thirty eight dollars. I assume you are aware of the following site that contains more information about the product:

Sure reminds me of the Little Dot 2 and that TimeStar amp...

Those amplifiers sure do look good, they're relitively cheap, too. How do you guys reckon they sound?

The 6N8P (ShuGuang?) tubes are the same as 6SN7.

If I got it, and I never would, I would get some Electro Harmonix Gold (EHG 6SN7) tubes or some old American tubes of the pre-60s (I like the VT231 type of 6SN7).

It is a good buy I am sure. You cna use low impedance headphones but the sound will not be perfect - try it and see. HD650s would be fine.

I have a preamp that I use as a headphone amp. It also likes 300 to 600 ohm loads. I use an Etymotic 4P to 4S converter to add impedance to the headphones: http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=166962

It has potential to be a great speaker amp with high efficiency 4 to 8 ohm speakers in a small room.
