Can American IEC power cords handle 220V?

Just like the thread title says. I've got a 220V original master which I've been using with a voltage converter 110V-220V. However the IEC cord is China-style, with a weird plug that I have to use an adapter with. Could I switch this IEC cord with a regular 3-prong American IEC cord safely? Do american IEC cords handle 220V?

I use American Nordost Valhalla with 220V no problem. The wiring is the same and only the plug is different. With a high quality aftermarket cable there should be no problems. But I wouldn't use a cheap stock cable to power expensive equipment.

I haven't got one here, so I can't check, but I'm pretty sure that the plugs and the cables themselves will have some info (including the max. voltage) printed/engraved on just like the ones we have over here. Hence I'd suggest: Grab two or three of yours and check for yourself!

P.S.: If you have difficulties with interpratation, just post what you found...

Thanks for the help lini.

I checked one power cord and it says 3C/18AWG 300V on the cord itself, but the IEC connector says 10A 125V. So it seems like the cord is capable but the IEC connector might not be...

Its not that the wire can not handle the added voltage but its the sleeving that becomes the issue. the cheaper stuff is usually rated to 300v and the nicer stuff 600v. you could likely get away with 300v just fine but 600v would certainly be on the safer side.

You should be just fine using the proper voltage converter with an american type power cable.
